Choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly’s voice resounds in the space between the echo of his Burkinan roots and the call to learn about other cultures. Through exuberant, powerful dance, he strives to reveal the flaws of our current time and imagine community differently. “How can we all live together?” he asks. His most recent work—for seven dancers, a singer, and a percussionist—is inspired by initiation rites and the role of masks and is characterized by inexhaustible energy. C la vie is a new contemporary ritual uniting the Western carnival tradition with the Western African Wara tradition of the Senufo region. For Serge Aimé, encounters with others, with music and with time are immutable and essential. His work is a celebration of life itself, in which the stage becomes the reflection of our shared humanity.

Serge Aimé was born in Bobo Dioulasso situated in the southwest of Burkina Faso. He founded Faso Danse Théâtre in 2002 with the aim of creating a genuine positive dynamic, seeing dance as a social commitment that can be practiced by both professionals and amateurs to engage in their role as citizens of the world. All his works are created partially in Africa and partially in Europe, and his immense talent as a choreographer and as a performer has earned him the admiration and deep respect of a multitude of international artists and presenters. In 2020, he was awarded the “Prix d’honneur” at the Golden Afro Artistic Awards.
